Kerr beams at Pinatar Cup win

- ALAN CAMPBELL

SCOTLAND head coach

Shelley Kerr says she is delighted that her side have won the Pinatar Cup with a game to spare. The tournament in Murcia is already in the bag following wins over Ukraine and Iceland.

The Scots play their final match against Northern Ireland, who are managed by Kenny Shiels, tomorrow night, but regardless of the outcome can't be caught in the standings. Kerr's side have six points, three ahead of both Ukraine and Iceland, while Northern Ireland have yet to get off the mark.

Should two or more sides finish the tournament on the same number of points, the outcome of the games between them is the first determining factor.

“We came to win the tournament,” the Scotland head coach said. “We've beaten Iceland, who were the highest ranked team. The players have dealt with the pressure, so overall I'm delighted.”

Kerr made eight changes to the side which had beaten Ukraine 3-0 for Saturday's game against Iceland, which was settled by a debut international goal for Birmingham City's Abbi Grant early in the second half.

The head coach plans to give all 24 players in her squad game time in the tournament, although there is an injury doubt concerning Arsenal forward Lisa Evans. The trip has already provided first caps for West Ham striker Martha Thomas – she got two goals on her debut – and Glasgow City midfielder Sam Kerr.

That leaves Hibernian fullback Amy Muir as the only uncapped player not to have featured and that is expected to be rectified against Northern Ireland.
