Health comes first for Hibs boss
HIBERNIAN manager Jack Ross is urging his players to focus their energies on the health and safety of their families during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Easter Road squad have been ordered to stay away from work this week as difficult decisions are made over the immediate future of Scottish football in the wake of Friday’s suspension of all games.
Ross has revealed his players’ reaction to that news was one of initial disappointment that Saturday’s pivotal encounter with top-six rivals St Johnstone would not be going ahead. However, he believes that, as the gravity of the situation hits home, there will be a realisation that football has to take a back seat for a while.
He said: “When I first spoke to the players on Friday, after the news had been relayed to me that Saturday’s game had been postponed, the players just want to play. But I would imagine that, as they returned home that day and with the severity of the situation as it accelerated, that would have dissipated a little bit.”
Meanwhile, Stenhousemuir chairman Iain McMenemy insists the uncertainty caused by Scottish football’s suspension is “untenable”.
He said: “At present, the Scottish FA has postponed all football under its banner until further notice.
“I have asked for clarification for this coming weekend and the few weeks beyond but none has been given. I think this position is untenable.
“Trying to limp from week to week is the worst scenario possible.”
