Celtic academy chief on Tierney’s legacy

McCart maps out Parkhead pathway in an exclusive interview. Warriors allowed to return to Scotstoun

DANNY WILSON will be able to coach his Glasgow players on home ground for the first time next week after the Warriors were given the green light to resume training at Scotstoun.

The majority of the squad came off furlough this week to train at Oriam, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, and they will be joined next week by some of the new head coach’s recent signings, including lock Richie Gray and prop Enrique Pieretto.

“We’re really looking forward to returning to Scotstoun,” head coach Wilson said. “It’s our home, and it’s the perfect place to continue our preparations to return to rugby.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has put in work behind the scenes to get us back to Scotstoun. It’s been great to get a ball back in the players’ hands and start rugbyspecific training this week, and we can’t wait to continue that at Scotstoun.”

Around 40 Glasgow players have been training at Oriam – a greater number than originally expected when the end of furlough was announced by the SRU. Before then, during the last weeks of furlough, they were training at BT Murrayfield on what was described as an individual, invitational basis.

The addition of the new signings to next week’s training group means that the vast majority of his squad is available to work with Wilson just now as preparation continues for the double-header against Edinburgh Rugby late next month. Glasgow have not revealed which players have still to come off furlough, although it is understood that all senior players who would normally take part in big matches are either back in training already or will be back on Monday.

The Warriors’ games against Edinburgh, the last two rounds of the PRO14 regular season, will take place at Murrayfield on Saturday 22 and Friday 28 August.
