Ross rues loss of Horgan but prepares for new recruits
HIBERNIAN head coach Jack Ross admits he is disappointed to lose Daryl Horgan to Wycombe after describing the attacking midfielder as a “manager’s dream”.
However, Ross is set to welcome another new recruit, with goalkeeper Dillon Barnes inching closer to sealing a season-long loan switch from Queens Park Rangers.
Republic of Ireland cap Horgan departed the Easter Road side for the English Championship newcomers for an undisclosed fee yesterday, bringing to an end his two-year stay in the capital.
Ross sanctioned the 28-yearold’s departure after Hibs recruited playmaker Jamie Murphy from Rangers on an initial loan deal on Saturday.
Former Preston player Horgan scored nine goals, including a memorable double in the April 2019 victory at city rivals Hearts, in 81 appearances for the Leith side.
Ross said: “Daryl was a genuine pleasure to work with - a manager’s dream in the way he applied himself every day.
“I’m disappointed to lose him but it’s a good opportunity for Daryl and his family. I wish them all the luck in the world.”
Ross, however, looks set to boost his goalkeeping options with the capture of Barnes on a temporary deal to provide competition for Ofir Marciano.
Following Adam Bogdan’s departure during the summer Ross only has Kevin Dabrowski, 22, as the only suitable back-up.
Barnes joined QPR last summer from Colchester and is yet to make his debut for former Rangers boss Mark Warburton’s side.
