Draw ‘not end of the world’ for Christie

-

RYAN CHRISTIE insists the drab draw with Israel “is not the end of the world” for Scotland as he looks to take the positives into Monday’s clash with the Czech

Republic.

The Celtic midfielder fired Steve Clarke’s side ahead with a superbly taken penalty late in the first half at Hampden.

But Scotland couldn’t hold on to get their Nations League campaign off to a winning start as Erhan Zahavi netted a lovely solo effort to earn the visitors a point.

Clarke switched to a 3-5-2 formation as Scotland returned to action after a lengthy lay-off and Christie is confident the required improvement will come sooner rather than later.

He said: “We wanted to win the game obviously and that is what the aim was. But, at the same time, we have continued that unbeaten run and it is not the end of the world.

“We would have liked to have created a bit more going forward and that is something we will look at. But we limited them to few chances as well, it was a very tight game.

“Second half we fell away from keeping the ball as well we wanted to but it has been a good week.

“The gaffer has been pleased with training and there are plenty of positives to take from tonight. I can only speak for myself, but I do feel the squad is moving forward. “I think probably both teams cancelled each other out well. In the first half we were a bit more threatening and it is something we will look at going into Monday. “I think we controlled the game even when we were out of possession pretty well and the shape was good, which has been a problem in previous games. Like I said, plenty of positives there.

“There is always a wee bit of pressure. I had it in my head where I was going as soon as I was on penalties. Delighted to see it to go in and hopefully more to come.”
