Glasgow set to sign Cancelliere

- Stuart Bathgate

GLASGOW have added to their firepower in the back three next season by signing Argentinian international Sebastian Cancelliere. The 27-year-old winger, who has ten Pumas caps, will join from Jaguares subject to being granted a visa.

With Rufus McLean, Ollie Smith and Cole Forbes all having made their breakthrough this season, Cancelliere faces considerable opposition for a place in the Warriors starting line-up, all the more so given that New Zealander Josh McKay is also joining the squad. However, Glasgow coach Danny Wilson is clearly eager to increase the internal competition in a squad that has looked stale for much of this season.

“Sebastian is a quality player with plenty of international and Super Rugby experience,”

Glasgow coach Danny Wilson said. “He’s a quick, evasive winger and his skill set will complement the style of rugby we play.”

Cancelliere will be joined at the Warriors next season by his compatriot Domingo Miotti, while Enrique Pieretto is already part of Wilson’s squad. “I’ve spoken with Enrique Pieretto and [former Glasgow centre] Gabriel Ascarate about the Warriors, and [they] talked really highly of the club and its players,” the winger said in a press release issued by the team.

Cancelliere made his international debut against England in 2017. The following year he played in the Pumas’ 15-44 defeat by Scotland. He also had a brief involvement in the 14-9 defeat at Murrayfield towards the end of 2018.
