Defoe keen for another medal after cup victory

- CHRIS JACK

JERMAIN DEFOE is determined to savour more silverware success this season as Rangers look to add the Scottish Cup to their Premiership crown.

Steven Gerrard’s side set up a fourth round fixture with Celtic by overcoming Cove 4-0 as Defoe and Nathan Patterson scored either side of a Kemar Roofe brace.

Rangers will now face their Old Firm rivals in a fortnight as they attempt to take another step towards Hampden and keep alive their ambitions of completing a dream double.

Defoe is out of contract at the end of the campaign but the veteran forward is loving life as part of Gerrard’s side as Rangers continue to build for a brighter future.

Defoe said: “Of course it [the draw] was an incentive. That’s the game that you want and we’re delighted to progress. We’re looking forward to it and the club and the fans and everyone’s looking forward to it.

“If we can get the double then it will be brilliant for everyone. You want more medals. Every competition you play in you want to win and get the trophies.

“For me on a personal level, it was a massive dream come true to win a league title. In any league it’s always difficult to win a league title because you have to be consistent and the best team in the league.

“Having done that, it’s a great feeling. And you want more after that. I’ve just focused on getting the season done and if I get the opportunity then focus on my performances because the players in front of me have done well.

“The forwards are scoring goals so you just have to focus on playing football, training every day and keeping sharp and when the season is finished decide what will happen.

“It’s well documented how much I love it here and how much I enjoy playing in front of fans. I’ve missed that so much this season and to get the chance to play in front of the fans again would be special.”
