‘Shambolic’ decision an outrage, says Adam

-

CHARLIE ADAM has branded the 10-game ban handed out to Ondrej Kudela as “shambolic”, and claims it illustrates that UEFA are weak.

The penalty was announced by European football’s governing body yesterday after they found the Slavia Prague defender directed racist abuse towards Glen Kamara in last month’s Europa League clash with Rangers.

Finland international Kamara, who alleges that the Czech player called him a “monkey”, has also landed a three-game club suspension from UEFA for assaulting Kudela in the tunnel at Ibrox.

But with many players and football pundits claiming a year-long suspension would be a suitable sentence, former Rangers midfielder Adam admits Kudela’s penalty makes a mockery of the attempts to rid society of racism.

Dundee playmaker Adam, speaking to PLZ Soccer, said: “I’m stunned by it, we back this racism campaign every season, we hold the cards up and wear the t-shirts. You may as well go and rip that up now and forget about it, it’s a shambolic decision. If the lad has been found guilty for what he said then they should ban him for a year, a minimum a year – it’s disgusting.

“As a white player who has never been through this, I think it’s time that we stand up and make a difference because it is not acceptable in the game.

“I feel for Glen Kamara, I feel for every black player out there that when there is an opportunity like this and it’s obvious what was done; to get a 10-game ban, it just shows that UEFA are weak and we’ll have to see what else comes from it.”
