Nothing he could do about Lyon’s goal as the deflection off Calvin Bassey left him rooted. Dealt with everything else. Huge save at the death.

NATHAN PATTERSON

First start under the new manager. Again proved he is comfortable at this level. Used in his usual right-back role rather than further forward. Booked.

CONNOR GOLDSON (c)

A steady performance. Did nothing of any real note, but his standards are so high that he goes under the radar.

CALVIN BASSEY

Unlucky to score an own goal. Seems more natural at centre-half with every passing game. Handling of Karl Toko-Ekambi prior to his withdrawal was admirable.

BORNA BARISIC

Perhaps a bit suspect at the

Lyon goal with his lack of closing down. Another decent performance other than that error. Got forward well.

GLEN KAMARA

Classy and productive as ever. His feinted cross and cut-back for the first goal was sumptuous. Had fans on their feet with his display of skills.

JOHN LUNDSTRAM

A steady enough showing, but had a quiet game overall.

IANIS HAGI

In a more natural position with the game in front of him as an attacking midfielder, rather than being played out wide.

SCOTT WRIGHT

It’s fair to say he took his chance when bagging the opening goal, which will do his confidence the world of good. Provides greater balance on the right wing.

RYAN KENT

Fresh and raring to go after his rest. At it from the off, taking on his man, winning fouls and creating chances. Silky chip in the build-up for Wright’s goal.

KEMAR ROOFE

Building the case that his pressing game is better than Alfredo Morelos’s. Link-up play was strong as well. Unlucky to have smacked the post.

Steven Davis (for Kamara, 45) Kept the ball nicely, as per usual. Cleared a late chance off the line.

Scott Arfield (for Wright, 60) Filled in on the right.

Juninho Bacuna (for Hagi, 60) Some muchneeded game time for the lesser-spotted midfielder.

Joe Aribo (for Roofe, 73) Showed versatility to play as a false nine.
