Postecoglou questions referee’s Starfelt call

- DAVID IRVINE

ANGE POSTECOGLOU reckons decisions went against Celtic leading to Carl Starfelt’s red card against Ross County. But he wasted little time in his complaints as he hailed his Highland heroes.

The Parkhead boss appeared to suggest referee Alan Muir was wrong to send the defender off for two bookings as ten-man Celtic claimed a last-gasp winner in Dingwall.

Starfelt was first booked for his protests after receiving a bloodied nose after an aerial duel with Jordan White. He was then given his marching orders for the second caution after hauling down Regan CharlesCook in the 79th minute.

Quizzed on the decision, Postecoglou said: “I think a few of the decisions went against us tonight but I’m not going to complain about it. We’re just trying to win games of football and that’s what I keep telling the lads.

“We just keep doing our thing and winning games of football and not worry about all these other things that potentially are trying to derail us.

“(It was an) exciting finish, really pleased for the lads after putting in an enormous shift with ten men at the end we found a way to get a winner and I think just rewards for their efforts.

“I don’t think we were settling for anything. At the end we were trying to win the game which shows the spirit of the lads that with 10 men they were not going to settle for one point. That’s not what we’re about, they wanted to win that game and they did it.”

Anthony Ralston’s winner six minutes into stoppage time earned Celtic the three points keeping them within touching distance of league leaders Rangers who are four points ahead.

But Postecoglou cooled any talks of keeping the pressure on Rangers as he batted away a question on the title race, stating: “Just important to get three points, I’m not really worried about anyone else.”
