Aberdeen don’t need to sell, says Cormack
ABERDEEN chairman Dave Cormack has conceded that Calvin Ramsay’s standout performances for Stephen Glass’ side this season will have generated “a lot of interest” in the gifted teenage right-back at clubs across Europe.
However, Cormack has stressed the Pittodrie club are under no pressure to sell Ramsay or any of his teammates during the January transfer window despite the financial issues caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
And he stressed that bids for first-team players will only be accepted if they meet the valuation of directors and there is adequate cover in their position even though the cinch Premiership outfit posted a loss of more than £5 million in the last financial year.
Asked if Ramsay was the best young player he had seen come through at Aberdeen in many years, Cormack said: “Absolutely. He’s a lovely kid who looks after himself and has his feet on the ground. And he can use both feet.
“There’s not many rightbacks like him at that age [Ramsay is 18] doing what he does when you look at all the data. All these clubs look at the same systems. They will have seen the same things that we have.
“We certainly haven’t had any contact from any clubs about any young players, Calvin Ramsay or otherwise. But the window is coming up so I’m guessing we’ll see.”
Cormack added: “If the right price comes along for the right player and we have the ability to replace that player then it is something we would look at.
“In saying that, we don’t need to sell players in January, I can tell you that right now.”
