Rangers drop out of running for goalkeeper
RANGERS have dropped their interest in Vladan Kovacevic after
having the Rakow goalkeeper scouted on several occasions.
The 24-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina internationalist kept 16 clean
sheets in Poland’s Ekstraklasa last term, with a number of top European clubs monitoring his contract situation.
Kovacevic still has two years left on his contract, but it is understood that Rakow could cash in on their star man while they can.
FC Augsburg, SC Bologna, Royal Antwerp, Lech Poznan and Legia Warszawa have also made enquiries about the possibility of signing the 6ft 4in goalkeeper, while Rakow are also exploring the possibility of offering a new bumper deal.
Kovacevic has a goal of playing in the English Premier League and to
fulfil his dream he requires further UK work permit points. The right move this summer could provide the points needed.
The former Sarajevo man has featured against Rangers’ rivals Celtic in Europe over the past four years, conceding six goals over three Champions League and Europa League qualifying clashes.
Kovacevic has represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at under-21 level, making seven appearances.
Rangers have already been linked with Schalke goalkeeper Martin
Fraisl, West Brom’s Sam Johnstone and Dundee United’s Benjamin
Siegrist as potential goalkeeping options.
Uncertainty surrounds Ibrox veteran Allan McGregor this summer after he appeared to make an emotional appearance off the bench to replace Jon
McLaughlin during the Scottish Cup final.
It was a first Scottish Cup final appearance for the former Scotland goalkeeper, who defied his age last
term to help Rangers to the Europa League final with some impressive performances.
The victory over Hearts could be the final appearance of McGregor’s career but the 40-year-old is relaxed and will reflect on the campaign before making any
decision.
