Doncaster expresses gratitude to SPFL sponsor

- CHRIS JACK

NEIL DONCASTER insists the revised cinch rights deal will help Scottish clubs strive for success at home and abroad after resolving the longstanding “issues” with Rangers.

Ibrox chairman Douglas Park this week called for a Scottish FA investigation into the sponsorship saga and accused the SPFL of bullying and bringing the game into disrepute.

Rangers claimed they have been “fully vindicated” in their stance after refusing to display cinch logos on their shirts or use branded hoardings to promote the online used-car sales platform throughout the 2021/22 campaign.

In response to a hard-hitting statement from Park’s of Hamilton – the firm owned by Park that has a commercial relationship with Rangers – the Scottish football league governing body insisted they would welcome the opportunity to “set the record straight”over the controversy surrounding the five-year deal.

Title sponsors cinch pledged to plough £8m into the Scottish game when they put pen to paper last summer and Doncaster, speaking to Sky Sports, is grateful for their ongoing support as the war of words with Rangers was escalated once again.

SPFL chief executive Doncaster said: “We are really pleased that in the past week we have been able to agree a revised deal with cinch.

“Last season, which was the first season of the title sponsorship deal, we had some issues in terms of the inventory that we were able to deliver to cinch.

“But we are really pleased that in the last few days we have been able to sign a deal with cinch that ensures the money coming into the Scottish game will remain broadly the same. But it resolves the issues we had last season.

“Cinch have been brilliant partners to deal with.

“We are really grateful for their support of the entire Scottish game and the money that they bring in to the Scottish game is vital as we do our best to support the ambitions of all the member clubs, both in Europe and domestically.”
