Taylor: Killie will come good ahead of top-flight opener

- DAVID IRVINE

ASH TAYLOR is certain Kilmarnock will get stronger ahead of the cinch Premiership opener with new faces expected at Rugby Park.

The Ayrshire side missed out on the bonus point after a shoot-out defeat following their Premier Sports Cup draw against Championship outfit Partick Thistle just more than two weeks before the league season kicks-off. But Taylor is confident there is no need to panic with Derek McInnes in the market to add to his squad ahead of the league campaign.

“I’m sure more will come in and help us,” said Taylor of plans to add to the squad. “There’s going to be new faces coming in and they need to get used to the way we are and the way we play.

“There’s a lot of players who are still here from last year and the team spirit is still there. I’m sure the gaffer will want to add to it with good characters.

“I’m sure he’ll bring in the right types of players.”

McInnes has already made six signings for Kilmarnock’s return to the top flight with

Alan Power, Liam Donnelly and Kerr McInroy making free transfer moves and Zach Hemming and Lewis Mayo joining on loan. Ahead of kickoff against Thistle, Joe Wright was unveiled as Kilmarnock’s latest signing – a player familiar to McInnes after monitoring his progress during a trial stint at Hearts.

On his new team-mate, Taylor commented: “He’s a good lad. He’s vocal straight off the bat, so I’m looking forward to playing with him. He’s a big lad as well, just about the same height as me.

“It will be nice to play alongside him. He’s a good size and comfortable on the ball. I was pleased for him coming in and doing well.”
