Defender on firm footing with style of Postecoglou

MORITZ JENZ believes he has all the tools to adapt quickly to Ange Postecoglou’s style of football, and that his two-footedness can help him slot in on either side of the Celtic’s centre-back pairing.

The German was introduced to the media yesterday following his season-long loan from

Ligue 1 side Lorient, and he spoke of how much he was relishing being part of a team who will dominate possession after the more defensive approach of his former club.

“It’s the style I enjoy the most, because at Fulham we played the same style and in Switzerland we played the same style,”

Jenz said.

“Obviously in France we had to play more defensively and try to get a result out of the game, but I really enjoy having the ball at the beginning, dictating the tempo, picking the passes.

“Then I obviously like to organise the team and be fully in control of the game.

“I would consider myself two-footed. I worked on it as a kid because in the academy at Fulham they used to tell me it was good to have both feet, because then you can play both sides and it gives you more options to play.

“So, I practised to play with my left foot. My stronger side is my right.

“Competing with those guys [Cameron Carter-Vickers and

Carl Starfelt] can elevate my game as well, because the standard is so good.

“You need to have good team-mates to push you. They will push me and I will push them. We will try to improve each other.”

Jenz is hoping that such competition at Celtic, as well as the stage the club will offer to him, will also help him to fulfil his international ambitions.

“I qualify for Germany and Nigeria but I would prefer Germany because that’s where I grew up,” he said.

“It’s a great country to play for an hopefully one day I can make a couple of appearances, then maybe a couple more and then, who knows, perhaps play in a World Cup or Euros.

“But I need to do my best for the club first. That’s the most important thing and after that we can talk about the national team.

“I have a better chance of getting there playing here because it’s such a big club.

“I need to do the best I can for Celtic.”
