Wanted man Morelos in talks for new contract
ALFREDO MORELOS is set to end any uncertainty over his future by putting pen to paper on a long-term deal to commit himself to Rangers for the coming years.
Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed yesterday that the striker is in talks over fresh terms as he continues his recovery from the injury that ruled him out of the closing stages of last season.
And Herald and Times Sport understands a deal is all but in place that will see Morelos stay in Glasgow well beyond the end of his current contract.
Rangers remain in discussions with Morelos and his representatives and talks are ongoing over the length of deal that will be put on the table for the Colombian to sign.
The 26-year-old was part of the squad that Van Bronckhorst put through their paces at Ibrox yesterday as he continues preparations for his sixth season with Rangers and he showed no ill-effects of the thigh injury that he sustained in April.
Morelos was strongly linked with a move to Sevilla earli
er this summer but he is now poised to sign on once again and confirm his place as an integral part of Van Bronckhorst’s plans ahead of Rangers’ bid to regain their Premiership title this term.
Van Bronckhorst said: “At the moment he is training in a big part of the session, which is a good sign.
“Of course the other issue is the contract he has. He is very positive about signing a new contract, we are doing our best to get Morelos to sign a new contract as well.
“Hopefully in the next coming weeks we will sort it out but the talks are going.”
