Harvest time Four wines with vintage pedigree

-

WITH the harvest season in full swing, it’s make or break in the vineyard. To cheer on the winegrowers and picking crews, we look at four wines from previous vintages that are drinking beautifully and pay tribute to their talent.

Waitrose Dry Riesling 2015, Moselland (£7.99, Waitrose)

The Mosel experienced a terrific summer in 2015. Hugely versatile, this is a well structured, crisp and racy riesling with honeyed aromas and ripe acidity.

Tikohi Pinot Gris 2015, Marlborough, New Zealand (£11.99, laithwaites. co.uk)

Last year’s Marlborough was “a stunning vintage” according to Laithwaites. Exotic with pear-scented aromatics, the apple, pear, nectarine and citrus flavours are balanced by refreshing acidity.

Dourthe Reserve Montagne Saint Emilion 2014 (£11.49, Waitrose)

Marked by soft red berry fruits and spice, this wine is dominated by merlot and makes a good autumn sipper.

Chateau Haut Gleon Rouge 2013, Corbieres (£21.99, finewinesdirect. uk.com)

Haut Gleon is one of the jewels in the Languedoc’s winemaking crown. A combination of hotter-than-average days and cool night helped produce wines such as this inky beauty – intensely aromatic with forest fruits, herbs, earth and spice, ripe tannins and a long finish.
