Fizz Four bottles to add bubbles to Christmas

-

WITH its golden highlights, flick of shimmer and exceptional purity, champagne and sparkling wine are the drinks for celebrations, and we drink more fizz at Christmas than any other time of the year.

Want to get a head start on popping the corks? Here are some great-value bubbles that won’t break the bank.

Finest Prosecco Valdobbiadene DOCG, (£9, down from £10, Tesco)

This is a brut style which offers more fresh, citrusy notes than the sweeter pear flavours you’ll find in an extra dry prosecco. With apples, white flowers and honeysuckle, it’s lively and right on point.

Cava Prestige Brut (£10, M&S)

Cava is a smart move if you’re serving appetisers that need a refreshing sparkler. This one has apple blossom, pear and green herb flavours combining to offer a refreshing and aromatic wine.

Montes Sparkling Angel Brut NV, Chile (£15.50, Oddbins)

This little cracker tastes as good as it looks. Bready aromas mingle with notes of lemon curd, and the ripe fruit flavours are balanced with good acidity, ending with a flourish.

Winemakers’ Selection by Sainsbury’s Champagne Blanc de Noirs, Brut NV (£16, down from £20 until tomorrow)

This bestseller is a blanc de noirs, made entirely from black grapes for a richer, more rounded, toastier style. With a honeyed bouquet, it’s full, dry and seriously fruity with plenty of biscuity notes and a long, lingering finish.
