What is it?

A universal remote control to rule them all. Winter is the perfect time to catch up on much-hyped TV shows so why not make it the best experience possible with a remote control that can do just about everything, including boiling the kettle?

Good points?

Operating via radio frequency rather than infrared means you don’t need a line-of-sight view of the device you want to control. This eliminates the frustration of having to get the angle just right when pointing the remote; you press a button and operate devices from any room.

The Logitech Harmony Elite can control up to 15 entertainment devices, meaning you don’t need an army of remote controls. Its hub also allows you to operate your complete entertainment system and smart home from a smartphone or tablet. The supplied touchscreen can be easily programmed to launch specific channels or apps with the swipe of a finger. This is useful for controlling what children can watch when you are not in the room.

Bad points?

The price seems a tad excessive and will discourage many potential buyers. Battery consumption of the remote is rather swift and will require a recharge every night, unless you remember to keep docking it when not in use.

Best for …

Those who want a simplified but powerful home experience.

Avoid if …

You merely want to control your smart home or operate an entertainment system, as Logitech’s cheaper options are just as good.
