Britain’s Most Historic Towns (C4, 8pm)
Alice Roberts tells the story of the Regency period by studying the history of Cheltenham, Britain’s most Regency town. She attends a period society ball, investigates the rigid social hierarchy of the age and explores the Regency fondness for enemas. The penultimate episode of the series in which Roberts studies one key period in history by delving into the secrets of a historic town that encapsulates the era, providing an accurate impression of what life was really like at key moments.
Salamander: Blood Diamonds (BBC4, 9pm) This second series of the drama thrusting Belgian Chief Inspector Paul Gerardi (Filip Peeters) into the heart of a conspiracy involving his nemesis – the shady group called Salamander – has been pulsating viewing. As we move towards a thrilling climax next week, Paul is horrified to realise he has been betrayed by Rene. Then, when his friend arrives to represent Jacky, he warns her not to trust him. The detective’s despair further increases later when he starts to believe that Sofie has been abducted.
Who Wants to be a Millionaire? (STV, 9.15pm) What do you do when you want to revive the UK’s most popular TV quiz in celebration of its 20th anniversary? Phone a friend, of course. And the producers of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? did just that – as they called up The Grand Tour host and self-confessed quiz fan Jeremy Clarkson to step into Chris Tarrant’s shoes and present a special week-long run of the show. Will any of the contestants sitting in the famous chair over the next seven days join original millionaires Judith Keppel, David Edwards, Robert Brydges, Pat Gibson and Ingram Wilcox and scoop the jackpot? They should also be aware there are a few new twists along the way.
