THUMBS UP

KIRSTIE ALLSOPP is always on about location, location, location and it would seem her best location is business class with her children in economy. The presenter says that when she flies, she often upgrades but leaves her kids in the cheap seats. It sounds perfect: the youngsters learn independence while mum enjoys champagne and real cutlery.

WELCOME to 2018, Miss America. At last. The competition has announced it will no longer have a swimwear segment; instead the contestants will be asked to wear something that makes them feel good. Who would have thought that, one day, a beauty pageant could say this: we will no longer make judgments on physical appearance.

THUMBS DOWN

WELCOME to 1918, Mr Qatar Airways. The boss of the airline, Akbar al-Baker, said the company had to be led by a man “because it is a very challenging position”. And where did he say it? At a conference where the theme was gender imbalance. Time for Mr al-Baker to move on we think. The emergency exits are here, here and here.

SNOBS, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Some people got upset when it emerged more people applied to the TV show Love Island than Oxford and Cambridge, the implication being we are dumbing down. But pay attention, stupid: you can be intelligent and beautiful.
