Ben Fogle: New Lives in the Wild (Channel 5, 9.15pm)

Deep into the jungle mountains of Thailand on the border with Myanmar and far off any conventional map, Ben spends time with 40-year-old French-Canadian Julien, who has been a Buddhist monk for almost half his life. Living in a remote monastery, Ben learns how and why this former teenage student from the West stripped away all complications of a modern life for a primitive Eastern and religious existence, and how this choice affected his family. The adventurer observes how Julien has created a bespoke way of life, which includes giving back to the remote hill-tribe communities in his region.

Imagine – Hockney, the Queen and the Royal Peculiar (BBC1, 10.45pm)

Westminster Abbey has a very strong connection with the Crown. Not only has it been the site of royal weddings, funerals and nearly every coronation since 1066, it is controlled by the monarch rather than by a bishop. And no one has been in charge for longer than the Queen, who was crowned there 65 years ago. To mark her becoming the world’s longest-reigning monarch, Westminster Abbey has commissioned a towering glass window and has gone with a somewhat surprising choice to create it: David Hockney. He may be generally acknowledged as one of Britain’s greatest living artists but he has also turned down a knighthood and declined an invitation to paint the Queen’s portrait. Here, he reveals why he decided to accept this job, as Imagine follows the project from its beginnings to the installation.

Janet was convinced she had committed a murder. With contributions from her, Fred’s daughter Lynette, psychologists and police, this film explores whether Janet’s recollection of committing the murder could be true.

Ridley Scott’s version of the same story may have been covered in All the Money in the World recently, but this take on the Getty dynasty has been one of the TV highlights of the year. One of the key reasons is a terrific performance from Donald Sutherland as seasoned tycoon J Paul Getty, who refuses to give in to blackmail when his grandson is kidnapped. In episode five, Primo and Leonardo mobilise the local community, while Little Paul and Angelo try to agree on their next steps. The cast includes Hilary Swank, Harris Dickinson, Brendan Fraser and Andrea Arcangeli.
