Abused by My Girlfriend (BBC3, from Monday, 10am)
The broadcaster has highlighted certain types of abusive relationships in the past few years and it’s turning the spotlight on another difficult issue via this programme about Alex Skeel, a 22-year-old football coach. He was involved in a violent relationship with his girlfriend for five years, enduring psychological and violence of the worst kind – he was starved, repeatedly stabbed, burnt and had his every move scrutinised. When he eventually approached medics for help, he was told he was just 10 days from death. His ordeal has been described as one of the worst cases of abuse dealt with by Bedfordshire Police. Here, Alex confronts his experience.
