Zyxel Multy X AC3000 Tri-Band WiFi System

What is it?

A WiFi system which extends the range and efficiency of your home network. Older properties may boast charming “period features” (as Kirstie and Phil are wont to call them) but thicker, stone walls can play havoc with the signal emitted from a traditional, humble internet router.

Having tried a raft of boosters and extenders with varying success, to preserve what was left of my diminishing patience (and sanity), I gave this model from Zyxel a whirl. I chose the three-unit ultimate pack as I needed to cover a larger area comprising multiple rooms.

Good points?

The system was quick and easy to install with no configuration needed. There are plenty of features you can implement if needed such as separating bands and a host of traditional firewall settings, although these are perhaps better suited to the more technical minded.

By utilising Multi-User, Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) data streaming, the system can communicate with multiple devices simultaneously as opposed to sequentially like most other routers. The app allows you to control network access and is great for limiting children’s internet usage.

Bad points?

The price tag will put most people off unless entire coverage within the home is essential.

Best for ...

Those with large areas and multiple devices to connect to the internet at once.

Avoid if ...

The area you need to connect is quite small, such as only requiring WiFi in a living room and bedroom.

Score: 9/10.
