Dirty Money (Netflix, from Tue)

Alex Gibney, the acclaimed film-maker behind the Oscar-nominated Enron:

The Smartest Guys in the Room, is the brains behind this series. Each episode of the first run focused on an example of alleged corporate corruption and featured interviews with key players and experts; among the subjects the Volkswagen emissions scandal and Donald Trump. It’s two years since that run ended; here’s hoping the production team have spent the intervening time delving into more fascinating subjects. A handful of topics have been announced so far, including in-depth looks at Jared Kushner’s real estate empire, the Wells Fargo banking scandal and Malaysia’s 1MDB corruption case.

Mrs Fletcher (NOW TV/ Sky On Demand, from Tue)

Kathryn Hahn is one of the most talented comedy actors around, cropping up in supporting roles in such projects as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Step Brothers, Transparent and, perhaps most eyecatchingly, Parks and Recreation, in which she had an occasional role as political campaign manager Jennifer Barkley. Now Hahn is fronting her own series, playing the title character. Eve Fletcher is divorced, she’s the mother of teenager Brendan and she’s about to have a mid-life crisis. When Brendan enrols at college, Eve realises how empty her life is, so decides to turn over a new leaf by letting her hair down and embarking on a raft of new experiences. Jackson White, Owen Teague and Jen Richards are among the supporting cast.

Grantchester (BritBox, from Thu)

For many viewers, the shine went off this gentle crime drama inspired by James Runcie’s stories when original star James Norton left. Nevertheless, there is still a certain charm to the show, even though you’re often left wondering whether a vicar would really be allowed into interview rooms to question suspects alongside a police detective. Tom Brittney joined the cast in 2019; the most recent run saw him really bed down as earnest clergyman Rev Will Davenport who joined old school copper Geordie Keating (Robson Green) during investigations into university societies, a hitand-run incident, several murders and a paedophile. Kacey Ainsworth also stars, while Paula Wilcox joins the cast as Geordie’s troubled mother-in-law.

Elite (Netflix, from Fri)

For newcomers, this Spanish drama centres on three working-class teens who have enrolled in Las Encinas, an exclusive school where the elite send their children to study. The first two series went down a treat with viewers across the globe thanks to their heady mix of murder, intrigue and adolescent angst. Written and created by Carlos Montero and Dario Madrona, it has apparently been streamed by more than 20 million viewers, so there’s no wonder the first series was followed by a second; now we’re about to see the third. Will it prove to be as popular as the coolest student in school? Only time will tell, but what we do know is that if its predecessors are anything to go by, we’re in for a rollercoaster ride of excitement.
