THE VOICE OF PROPERTY
DEMAND for living on Scotland’s canal waters has grown steadily in recently years (more noticeably so since the Covid lockdown in March, apparently) and as demand is highest for the Union Canal, news of a further 29 canal moorings and 20 marina berths at the new Winchburgh Marina will likely be well received.
For those who prefer to overlook the water from land, a new deal between Winchburgh Developments and contractors J. Smart will soon result in ‘The Canal Quarter’ – 64 new apartments and houses overlooking the canal marina.
Winchburgh is set to ultimately deliver around 3,800 homes in addition to improved transport links, employment opportunities, schools and new outdoor spaces. The Winchburgh Marina, which opened in 2018 to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the Union Canal, will offer residents a unique lifestyle located in the heart of the town with access to cycle routes, parks and shops.
NICHE country developments offering more space and a better-balanced work/leisure lifestyle are enticing house buyers out of the city suburbs.
One that stands out from the rest is The Paddocks at Powmill, near Dollar in Perthshire, where Kinrossbased Webster Homes has only two of the original four, four-bedroomed steading-style homes available, together with two detached fivebedroomed styles.
Priced from £495,000 each property here is available with the option to buy an additional piece of land for £10,000, to be used either for grazing horses/ponies or to simply extend the garden.
While these homes incorporate a quality specification with luxury kitchens and bathrooms, there is also the opportunity (subject to build schedule) to incorporate extras such as sunrooms and log-burning stoves. Details are available from Selling agent, Morgans Property in Kinross.
LOCATION is the key determining factor in most house purchases, however in the case of a unique detached property at Skelmorlie on the North Ayrshire coast near Largs, location is outdone by panoramic sea views and expansive elevated decks – the latter giving the house ship-like viewing platforms.
Built in 1992 and more recently redesigned by Greenock architects Canata and Seggie and renovated by Glasgow-based interior designers Graven Images, Makalu is named after the world’s fifth highest mountain in the Himalayas.
Set within almost an acre of landscaped terraced gardens, the accommodation is spread over three levels to include two reception rooms and four bedrooms, with most of the living space and three bedrooms boasting sea views – maximised by fulllength windows incorporating numerous sets of patio doors opening onto an amazing wrap-round decking made from Indonesian hardwood.
LET Belmont West take you back to 1894 – a time of grand designs, timeless craftsmanship and historical significance. This was the moment James Miller’s stunning vision for Belmont Church was realised, first as a place of worship as Belmont and Lilybank Churches then later Laurel Bank school for girls.
Now, it is Belmont West, a truly unique set of 24 residences, with 21 apartments within the church itself and three very special new build mews houses – a pair of two bedroom semidetached homes with private outdoor terraces and a unique one-bedroom detached home with a garage.
With the development already 70 per cent reserved, this is an iconic residency in Glasgow’s desirable West End that marries stylish modern living with the divine character of this late nineteenth century masterpiece.
To many, Glasgow’s West End is Glasgow’s best end; an eclectic mix of art, culture and green space, a haven for cool delis, boutique shops and local traders, with just the right amount of restaurants, bars and classic pubs. Both inspiring and relaxing in equal measure.
The West End is an area that’s home to the UK’s 4th oldest university, an area with direct transport links to our bustling business district and our other famous academic institutions, an area that’s walking distance from the Hydro and the Scottish Event Campus (SEC).
Inside, there is white elegant décor and clean lines throughout, with a choice of premier wood flooring and carpets, triple glazed and double height windows to let natural light flood in and Leicht kitchens fitted by Kitchens International. There are also Siemens integrated appliances, Hansgrohe taps and Porcelanosa tiling in bathroom and en-suite. Outside, the development comes with landscaped communal gardens and private allocated parking with an electric gate entrance
DIVINE CHARACTER
The iconic sandstone exterior of the building has been refreshed and restored, with old columns and timber trusses retained.
Original stone carvings have been left exposed, with the original archway as the private entrance. With this rare opportunity to enhance one of Glasgow’s grand old buildings, particular emphasis was placed on creating a truly eye-catching doorway.
