THE current cold snap is placing a hefty burden on heating – a timely prompt to increase awareness of the Scottish Government’s recently launched £4.5m cashback incentive to help homeowners install renewable and energy efficient measures. The savings are substantial, enabling homeowners to apply for 75 per cent cashback up to the value of £7,500 towards the cost of a renewable heating system and a further 40 per cent cashback up to £6,000 for energy efficiency measures.

The new scheme, an extension of the Home Energy Scotland loan scheme, also provides free advice and a support service.

NOISY neighbours are never going to present a problem for one of the first houses to make a debut on New Year’s Day. North Lodge, a fully refurbished five-bedroomed detached villa off Woodside Street in Coatbridge, occupies a prime position in the centre of Monklands Cemetery and was originally built in the 1850s as two buildings, the largest being the grave keeper’s house, while the other is thought to have housed bodies prior to burial.

The two have been converted into one sizable period home set within garden grounds, comprising two reception rooms, fitted/integrated kitchen, bathroom, and three bedrooms over two levels (master with en suite and large south-facing balcony). There is also a further lower-level en suite bedroom, which could be ideal for a teenager or guest accommodation. For sale with AB Property Consultants and Reside in peace at Monklands Cemetery

Estate Agents in Glasgow at offers over £215,000, it represents a lot of house for the money.

THIS latest lockdown means homes are once again bearing the brunt for everyday living but also for work, education, fitness and leisure. It’s a tall ask that likely many homes will struggle to accommodate.

My dream home right now would have to include a designated home office; a room to house bulky gym equipment; family kitchen/diner with integrated wine cooler, coffee machine and enough space to cater for meals and school classwork; home cinema complete with surround sound and popcorn machine; and a spa-style principal en suite with Jacuzzi bath, sauna cabin, and separate shower with all the add-ons (mood lighting, steam, aromatherapy a must). I would also want a large garden to house a bespoke insulated/heated outdoor studio with space-saving ‘endless’ pool. And a bike shed as well as a garage. While it’s good to dream, going forward it will be interesting to see how house builders respond.

One developer has already kicked off the new year with a free exercise bike incentive. Let’s hope the house design incorporates a space for it…
