VODAFONE CURVE GPS TRACKER

- SEAN DIMMOCK

What is it?

A smart valuables tracker that incorporates multiple locating technologies.

Good points?

Using four tracking technologies – GPS, WiFi, Cellular and Bluetooth – the Curve caters for most scenarios from a lost dog in the park to misplaced keys in your home. This differs from other trackers which rely predominantly on short range communications technology.

Real-time GPS tracking gives the Curve an edge on the competition as you can locate your prized possession instantly by opening its accompanying smartphone app. The device can run for up to seven days before needing recharged depending on how often you choose to track: real-time tracking will reduce the longevity by a couple of days.

You can customise alerts for important metrics, such as distance, which is ideal for when you leave home without your keys. Quick alerts allow instant updates from Curve to phone and ideal for letting loved ones know where you are.

Bad points?

A built-in Sim means you are bound to a Vodafone contract and its network coverage to pick up the signal.

The proximity beeper is a great touch but lacks sufficient noise to be heard unless you are almost on top of it.

Similar to the beeper, its Bluetooth sensor seems underpowered – perhaps in an attempt to prolong battery life – and results in its tracking range being limited.

Best for ...

Those who have something valuable they want to keep tabs on and need a convenient, effective and cheap way of doing that.

Avoid if ...

You are thinking of using its technology in the manner of an amateur private detective. Let’s leave that to the professionals.

Score: 9/10.
