Man in serious condition in hospital after Edinburgh shooting

-

AMAN is in hospital with serious leg injuries after being shot in Edinburgh.

Police said the attack on the man, aged in his twenties, is thought to have been an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the public.

Officers found the victim after being called to a disturbance in Cables Wynd, in the Leith area, just after 11pm on Friday.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

Detective Inspector Alan O’Brien, of Edinburgh CID, said: “An extensive investigation is now under way.”

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man was stabbed during a gig at a Glasgow music venue. He was attacked during a fight in the Island Bar at the O2 Academy in the city’s Gorbals area at about 1.30am on Saturday. The venue was hosting a night of Australian DJs put on by dance promoter Colours at the time.

The man was taken by ambulance to the city’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and released after treatment.

The suspect is described as white, in his late teens to early twenties, with short dark hair. He was wearing a white polo shirt and light-coloured, knee-length shorts.

Detective Constable Lee-Anne Miller said: “The injured man was standing in the bar area when he became involved in an altercation with the suspect which then led to a fight in which he was stabbed.

“Thankfully, no-one else was injured, but with the number of people about this could have escalated quite easily.

“We are working with staff from the venue, who quickly stepped in to stop the fight, and we are checking CCTV inside the premises to identify the person responsible. The gig was packed at the time of the assault and a number of people have been spoken to regarding what they saw. However, I am still keen that anyone who witnessed the incident contacts police.”
