Hamilton unable to stop champions’ unbeaten run

CHAMPIONS Falkirk extended their unbeaten run in cinch League One to 33 matches with a 2-0 win at second-placed Hamilton.

Falkirk’s title success has already been sealed, but hosts Hamilton were eager to inflict a rare defeat on the divisional champions.

A tight affair was settled in the 50th-minute when Ross Maclver fired home from close range before Aidan Nesbitt added a second late on for Falkirk.

Play-off rivals Alloa and Montrose played out a stalemate, which leaves the pair third and fourth in the table respective­ly.

Fifth-placed Cove Rangers suffered a shock 4-2 loss at relegation-threatened Annan.

An action-packed first half saw both teams score twice before efforts by Benjamin Luissint and Josh Walker in the second period earned Annan a crucial three points.

It helped Annan move up to eighth and leapfrog Stirling in the battle to avoid a relegation play-off.

Stefan McCluskey’s 33rd-minute goal handed Kelty Hearts a 1-0 home win over Stirling, while Queen of the South beat alreadyrel­egated Edinburgh City 2-0 after second-half headers by Gavin Reilly and Paul McKay.

In League Two, champions Stenhousem­uir were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Elgin.

Ross Taylor’s goal after a quarterof-an-hour appeared to have Stenhousem­uir on course for all three points, but Rob Jones levelled with six minutes left for Elgin.

The visitors finished with 10 men after Owen Cairns was shown a second yellow card but still held on for a point.

Peterhead remain second after Jack Brown struck with 10 minutes left to beat Forfar 2-1.

Dumbarton stay third and level on points with Peterhead after James Hilton struck the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Clyde.

Fourth-placed The Spartans lost ground on their play-off rivals after a 0-0 draw with Stranraer and Bonnyrigg Rose claimed a surprise 4-1 win away at East Fife.
