Boy charged over damage at cemetery
AN 11-year-old boy has been charged after 28 gravestones were pushed over at a cemetery.
Police fear the incident, at Whitburn Cemetery, which caused £80,000 in damage, was caused after youths were lured to the area playing Pokemon Go.
The youth will now be reported to the Children’s Reporter.
Chief Inspector Stevie Dolan, Local Area Commander for West Lothian, said: “We recognise the impact this incident has had on the community and to those with loved ones at rest within the cemetery. We worked closely with our colleagues at West Lothian Council during our investigation.
Executive councillor for services to the community, George Paul, added: “This is a sad incident and one that has caused a lot of distress to many people. Graveyards should be respected and cherished at all times.”
