Teenager is accused over fatal crash

-

A TEENAGER has been accused of causing the death of his 20-year-old sister by dangerous driving after a head-on crash in the Borders on August 21.

Fayyadh Alkhaeriji appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court, where he was also charged with causing serious injury to another female passenger by dangerous driving and having no insurance.

It is understood the 19-yearold, from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was holidaying in Scotland at the time of the accident on the A1 near Granthouse, Berwickshire.

A Mercedes Vito van was travelling south when it collided with a red Scania lorry heading in the opposite direction.

The 20-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the van, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Alkhaeriji made no plea or declaration during a brief court appearance and his case was continued for further examination.
