Accused in court after alleged raid

A 32-YEAR-OLD man allegedly robbed a chip shop at gunpoint after tying the owner up in the bathroom before abducting his wife.

Nicholas McGurk appeared at Perth Sheriff Court yesterday on a petition alleging he carried out an armed robbery and abduction in Coupar Angus on Friday night.

Mr McGurk, from Govanhill, Glasgow appeared in private on charges relating to a robbery at a chip shop.

He is alleged to have carried out the masked raid and assaulted two people by brandishin­g a firearm and knife and demanding money.

Mr McGurk allegedly threatened to kill staff and pushed them before tying up one of the alleged victims in the shop bathroom.

He allegedly took money from the till and struck a woman, pointed the gunat one of the staff’s face then abducted one of the people at knifepoint. He made no plea or declaratio­n and was remanded in custody.
