OAP who went down A90 wrong way fined
A PENSIONER caused chaos on a busy dual carriageway by driving in the wrong direction as he made his way home from a wedding in the dark.
Sydney Wallace, 83, was told by a sheriff he had created the “potential for horrific consequences” by driving on the A90.
Perth Sheriff Court was told Wallace did not like driving in the dark and became confused as he entered the main dual carriageway between Perth and Dundee.
Solicitor John McLaughlin, defending, told the court: “He doesn’t like driving in the dark so it was anticipated he would leave at3or4pm.
“As it was, due to various elements of the wedding running on, it was 7pm before he left. He had not been to this area before.
“When he reached the flyover he thought he was going in the right direction. As soon as he saw headlights he panicked. He thought there would be a gap in the central reservation but there wasn’t.”
Wallace, of Alma Avenue, Aberfeldy, admitted driving dangerously on the A90 near Errol by being on the wrong side of the road.
He admitted causing several cars to swerve to avoid colliding with him and eventually hitting a Seat Ibiza driven by Sarah Kennedy. He admitted damaging both vehicles and failing to stop on March 19.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis formally disqualified the retired farmer for two years and fined him £1,000.
