Police face probe after death of man

THE police response to concerns about a man who later died is to be investigat­ed.

The 31-year-old was found seriously ill in Glasgow on August 24 and died on his way to hospital.

The Police Investigat­ions & Review Commission­er (Pirc) has now launched an investigat­ion into the initial police response following a report of concern for the man’s welfare.

A Pirc spokesman said: “The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service has instructed the Police Investigat­ions & Review Commission­er to undertake an investigat­ion into the circumstan­ces surroundin­g the death of a 31-year-old man who was found seriously ill in Glasgow on August 24, 2016.

“The man was treated at the scene but later died on the way to hospital.

“The investigat­ion will focus on the initial police response after a report of concern was made about the man’s welfare.”
