BASKETBALL Glasgow Rocks guard Jonny Bunyan insists he won’t treat new arrival Neil Watson as a rival, claiming the American will push him to make further leaps forward, writes Mark Woods.

The Scot was on the bench for last weekend’s season opener with Watson taking the starting playmaker role. But Bunyan says he is looking to take a lead from the former Leicester Riders star.

“For the first time since EJ Harrison was here, I’ve got someone who’s going to make me work very hard to stay in front of him,” he said. “He’s fast and very experienced. I look at it that I’m going to learn a lot from him and hopefully keep doing what I do in the game. If we play together, we’ll probably complement each other very well.” CURLING Scotland’s form player Kyle Smith and world junior champion Bruce Mouat could face two of the game’s biggest names if they win their opening matches at the Swiss Cup in Basle tonight, writes Lorin McDougall.

Smith, who opens against Swiss skip Bjorn Jungen, could set up a meeting with the imposing Canadian Brad Gushue. Mouat takes on Lucien Lottenbach with the winner likely to then play Sweden’s double world champion Niklas Edin. GOLF Grant Forrest has turned professional and will make his debut in the paid ranks on home soil in next week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

The 23-year-old has secured an invitation for the $5m European Tour Pro-Am event at Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews, joining Bounce Sport stablemate Ewen Ferguson in the line-up.

Forrest is making the switch on the back of a stellar amateur career, having racked up a string of victories over the past seven years. HOCKEY Scottish champions Bromac Kelburne are spreading their recruitment net worldwide to augment their squad for the season ahead, writes Craig Madden.

The Paisley side have signed Australian Ryan Holding who played for Grange last season, New Zealander Nick Finlayson along with German player Jonus Nostramm.

Grange have signed Australians Nathan Doherty and Dominic Wild.
