Father’s tribute after body of son is found

-

THE father of a man who has been missing for more than two weeks has spoken of his heartbreak after his body was found in a loch.

Sean McKenna, 24, from Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, disappeared on October 10, sparking a missing persons search.

Last night his father James wrote a post on Facebook to confirm that Sean’s body had been recovered from the town’s Drumpellier Country Park.

Sean McKenna had been worried after being diagnosed with the early onset of arthritis, which had forced him to quit playing football.

Hundreds of people from across the North Lanarkshire town turned out to search for him.

His body is believed to have been found in a loch at Drumpellier Country Park.

His father wrote on Facebook: “It breaks my heart to post this.

“The police have just informed us that Sean McKenna has been found dead in the loch.

“We [thank] the people who have searched and gave up their time looking for him and how the community came together as one.

“We are devastated at our loss.

“Hopefully he’s up in heaven looking down on us with his big, happy smile.”

Mr McKenna, who lived on Townhead’s Teviot Street, left a friend’s house in Derwent Drive at around 3am but was not seen again.

During the campaign to find his son his image was shown to 60,000 football fans at Parkhead.

Mr McKenna’s father and mother said previously they were overwhelmed by the daily searches organised by concerned locals and fellow Celtic supporters.
