‘Rob Roy’ pub put up for sale

-

A SCOTTISH pub that was referenced in Sir Walter Scott’s Rob Roy has closed, 200 years after first opening.

The Carbeth Inn in Blanefield, Stirlingshire, closed its doors for the last time on Sunday. Owner Greene King has now put the popular pub up for sale for offers over £370,000.

The inn’s manager broke news of the closure on Facebook, telling customers: “Unfortunately, this week marks the end of an era for the Carbeth Inn. We are deeply saddened by this, but would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the last two years and made it a fantastic time.”

The pub, which is one of only a few bars and eateries to be included on UK road maps, has appeared in several episodes of Glasgow detective drama Taggart.

It was also referenced in Sir Walter Scott’s Rob Roy, where it was described as “a most miserable alehouse”.
