IOMART has revealed that is one of several parties which has been holding talks over the potential acquisition of PlusServer GmbH, the German cloud computing company.

Glasgow-based Iomart issued a statement to the stock market concerning its interest in the deal last night following what it said was speculation in the press.

PlusServer is headquartered in Cologne and according to its website serves more than 5,000 customers from 10 date centres, seven in Germany and the others in Austria and Switzerland.

The Scottish firm said: “Iomart, the cloud computing company, can confirm that further to recent press speculation it is one of a number of parties in early stage discussions regarding the potential acquisition of the German managed hosting company PlusServer GmbH. There can be no certainty that these discussions will lead to an agreed transaction. The company will further update the market in due course.”

The development comes less than two weeks after Iomart chief executive Angus MacSween revealed the firm was continuing to assess acquisition targets, declaring that it continues to see “good earnings accretion from these small bolt-on opportunities”.

Iomart has already acquired Dediserve, a Dublin-based cloud solutions provider, for €7.9 million in its current financial year.

Iomart declined to comment last night. Shares closed up 1.25p at 325p.
