Edinburgh will start flights to Washington

A DIRECT route between the capital of Scotland and the capital of the US will operate from next year.

United Airlines will operate the daily service between Edinburgh Airport and Dulles Internatio­nal Airport, Washington DC, from May 23.

Airport bosses say it’s the first time there has been a direct route from Scotland to the city of Washington.

The airline will continue to run yearround flights to New York Newark in addition to extending their Chicago summer service.

“Our partners at United have seen firsthand the positive impact of flights from Edinburgh to New York Newark and Chicago, and we are keen to replicate that to Washington for both a business and tourist audience.

Transport Minister Humza Yousaf said it was “great news” for Scottish businesses, giving them better access to important US markets through United’s hub operation as well as the tourism industry.
