‘No crime’ at mass grave

home to more than 10,000 children between 1864 and 1981. Research of death records found that most of the children between 1870 and 1930 died from common diseases such as tuberculos­is, pneumonia and pleurisy.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and Police Scotland said they “recognise the level of public concern” following the reports but that there is currently no evidence of criminal activity. Smyllum Park Orphanage is one of the institutio­ns being examined by the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry.
