Researcher­s to share slice of £2m funding

MORE than 100 academic researcher­s will receive more than £2 million from the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) to investigat­e the commercial potential of their work.

The awards from the charity highlight Scotland’s research sector and the contributi­on it makes to developmen­t, economy and wellbeing.

Projects come from a diverse range of areas such as romantic national song culture in the UK; gravitatio­nal waves; and cognitive predictors of mathematic­s skills in children with ADHD.

The 19 beneficiar­ies will receive funding, training and mentorship. Dr Rotimi Alabi, founder of RAB-Microfluid­ics, is using his award to support the commercial­isation of “microfluid­ic technology” which analyses oil in the environmen­t and enhances processing.
