Slavery coffee tins dropped
WAITROSE has pulled tins of coffee from its shelves because the packaging depicted images of slavery.
The illustrations appeared on the sides of tins sold by Italian coffee company Saquella 1856.
The pictures showed black slaves harvesting beans in Guatemala and in one image a white plantation manager watches a black mother carrying a child.
Shopper Patriic Gayle, 56, complained to staff in the branch of the supermarket in the Brunswick Centre, Camden. He also alerted Waitrose headquarters which removed the products from sale.
