-

HUNDREDS of oil jobs are under threat on three major drilling rigs which are currently tied up in port due to a lack of work.

Aberdeen-based Stena announced it was in consultation with a total of 450 people employed between the three rigs which are in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria.

The drilling contractor said about 57 of those involved in the consultation l i ve in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire and those affected are rig-based.

Stena stressed that not all of those people would lose their jobs.

The company said it was still trying to decide how many workers it would need to lay off, but it hoped to win new contracts.
