Sarwar in new racism claim
ANAS Sarwar has spoken again on his claim of institutional racism in the police.
The Labour MSP has been embroiled in a public spat with police union officials after he said new government research showed ethnic minorities were four times as likely to be stopped by officers, calling it an example of “everyday racism”. But David Hamilton, Scottish Police Federation vicechairman, accused him of “playing the race card”.
At the Scottish Labour conference in Dundee, though, Mr Sarwar stood by the claims. He said: “Do you think it is only a coincidence that the only two ethnic minority parliamentarians in Scotland have both been stopped and searched?”
