Broadcaster backs campaign to help beat cancer

-

AN eye-catching campaign to help raise awareness of ovarian cancer has been backed by broadcaster and ex-mp John Nicholson, whose “second mum” died of the disease.

The former East Dunbartonshire MP has voiced his support for the Have You Been Tealed? initiative from cancer charity Ovacome.

His aunt Edith, whom he said inspired him to stand for election in 2015, died of the disease. She left him her home in Bearsden, which would later become his constituency address while he served as MP until 2017.

Mr Nicholson said: “She was my second mum. My aunt Edith fought the condition for five years. With help and support she lived life to the full during those years.” He added: “So many families are affected by ovarian cancer in this country. And ours is one of them. I think of her every day. She was brave and an eternal optimist. I know she would have been a passionate supporter of Ovacome.”for Ovacome’s Have You Been Tealed? initiative, a number of personalities were photographed wearing something teal – the signature colour of the disease.

Central to the campaign is Ovacome’s BEAT acronym: B for bloating that doesn’t come and go; E for eating less and feeling fuller quicker; A for abdominal or pelvic pain; and T for change in toilet habits.
