A judge told the former energy secretary and his ex-wife they were “acting together” in deciding to pervert the course of justice when she agreed to take his speeding points.

Almost £500million of subsidy will be required to ensure the SNP’S local tax plans mean lower bills for most households, though it would still leave bills rising for profession­al couples. The subsidy to councils would mean an effective tax cut for most council taxpayers and would have to be funded from other Scottish Government budgets. It helped the Finance Secretary John Swinney present the major reform of local taxation as leaving most households better off, while killing off the “high and unjust” council tax yesterday.
