HAPPY HIBERNATION

Duvet days have never been so stylish, says Emma Akbareian

Tis the season to hunker down with a hot drink and a snuggly blanket, well given it’s October perhaps we’re not there just yet, but almost. With the clocks turning back and the cold weather well and truly settling in, attention is turning to a wardrobe that will keep the chill at bay and there’s nothing more appealing in such conditions as a good pair of pjs.

Whistles may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of sleepwear, the premium retailer has made a name for itself for its grown-up take on high street trends. This autumn sees it team up with Yolke, the London-based label specialising in silky pyjamas, for a limited edition collaboration made up of two unique designs, adorning traditional style sleepwear with an eye mask thrown in for good measure.

Pyjamas have come a long way from the days of well-worn sweats and novelty themes. While there’s nothing wrong with the cheap and cheerful, the market has taken a decadent turn. Sumptuous silks and soft cashmere are par for the course with even high street stores such as Marks & Spencer showcasing an impressive range; Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s long-running collaboration tops shopping lists.

There might be more of an argument for splashing out considering cost-per-wear value of nightwear. This is especially so with the trend for sleepwear on the streets – pyjama-inspired ensembles have been sashaying down catwalks from the likes of Stella McCartney and Louis Vuitton for many seasons. A pair of heels instantly adds an air of formality to such a look. If that still sounds a little scary, teaming a pyjama shirt with jeans is a look that can be worn with ease.

And if you can’t quite bring yourself to stretch the purse strings to cashmere and silk, with the festive season right around the corner such luxurious pieces will make welcome additions under any Christmas tree – providing you drop the right hints that is.
