THE DARK SIDE

This season it’s all about vampy vibes from deep berry to aubergine lips, Sarah Young writes

-

Deepening your lip shade in the cooler months is about as ground-breaking as florals in spring but despite a volley of new beauty trends bidding to break through, none can out-do this season’s vampy vibes.

From deep berry to aubergine, dark and dramatic hues swarmed the runway like never before as a new iteration of goth-glam macquillage set the beauty tone. And, while the likes of Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwood opted for matte, jet-black pigment it was the berry-like mouths that really did the talking.

At Rodarte, models wore a no-shine shade of merlot to compliment a full, bold brow while at Gareth Pugh, a combination of burgundy, black, crimson and orange came courtesy of make-up maestro Pat McGrath.

A blackberry lip is a undeniably a statement, and a strong one at that, but some designers dared to take it one step further. For Dior and Louis Vuitton, models’ pouts were painted with lacquered black cherry lips

for a high definition mirror shine. While this trend falls quite fittingly with imminent All Hallows’ Eve, don’t confine your dark side to one night only. The key thing here is to keep the rest of your look simple, so make sure your cheeks and eyes are paired back so your look revolves around a dramatic, blackberry lip. It’s also vital that your lips are in

great shape so keep them moisturised.
