Millions in sick and disability benefits unpaid due to ‘shoddy admin’
Tens of thousands of sick and disabled people have been denied government money
they were entitled to due to “shoddy administration” dating back years, a report has found. A damning inquiry by the National Audit Office reveals the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has routinely underpaid an
estimated 70,000 people who transferred to employment support allowance in the past seven years. The average underpayment is £5,000 but in some cases could be as high as £20,000. The DWP will have to pay claimants £340m.
